Łukasz SUROWIEC

《Jacob's ladder》 2020

INTRODUCTION

Jacob's ladder

Łukasz Surowiec has been actively involved with people who tend to be excluded and isolated by society. In this work, he invited homeless people to the accommodation in Krakow, where tourists have stopped coming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They relax in their own way, make some tea, take a shower, and sleep. During a global pandemic, we glimpse the possibility to build a new community. The title "Jacob's ladder" comes from a mysterious dream (the ladder to stretch from heaven to earth, angels are seen ascending and descending on it) that Jacob had, appearing in the Book of Genesis and being tired of traveling. It indicates the possibility of social and economic equality on earth.
