Kioku Shugei-Kan “Tansu”
A center for creative activity located in a former dresser in Nishinari-Ku, Osaka City. It opened in 2012 as part of the "Breaker Project," a community art project based in Nishinari-Ku that have promoted by the city of Osaka. From 2018, a general incorporated association, brk collective, took over the management of the center. It has aimed for creating a "place of creation" based on "craftmanship" as a new public place (shared space) that is needed and supported by local people. Based on the concepts of "making the use of what is available in the community," "collaboration with other fields," and "using art as a medium," this project uses unneeded cloth and yarn collected in "tansu" (dresser) to produce and sell original products and the fashion brand "NISHINARI YOSHIO," which are handcrafted by elderly women in the community.
